Abstract

This article aims to understand various externalizations of a patrimonial nature – from material to intangible – present in the Madeiran pilgrimage of Nossa Senhora do Monte during the first years of the 20th century, privileging five distinct moments: the routes to reach the festive space; arrival at the sanctuary and the Marian cults that perpetuate the myth; the epicenter of the cult locus; the end of the festivity and the routes back to everyday life; and the exportation of this practice through emigration.
