Alfredo de Freitas Branco and Lusitanian Integralism
Abstract
This article intends to highlight the connection of Alfredo de Freitas Branco to Lusitanian Integralism, a movement that emerged in Portugal, in the beginning of 1914, of an antiliberal matrix, whose fundamental program established, among other aspects, the return to a traditionalist monarchy, centered on the King’s figure.
In this sense, we try to present a brief historical background of the Lusitanian Integralism and some essential aspects of its doctrinal and political development, especially in the first quarter of the 20th century, its period of greatest influence.
In articulation with the history of the movement, we approach the action of Alfredo de Freitas Branco, as a member of Lusitanian Integralism, highlighting his contribution in the formation and propagation of the integralist project.
